CFDEM coupling memory requirements

Submitted by mohsen_ba65 on Mon, 02/01/2016 - 21:53

Hi,

I am running into memory issues running cfdem on a cluster. I wanted to know if there is a way to estimate memory requirement of a simulation.

My current case is an 18" sphere with one inlet on side and one outlet on top. I was wandering if the size of the sphere could influence the memory requirements of the simulation and if yes then how. Is there any method to find an estimate of memory requirements?
If my simulation asks for more memory than what is defined on the cluster then it will crash and stop.

Thanks,
Mohsen

CFDEMsolverIB FOAM fatal error

Submitted by bnaar on Mon, 02/01/2016 - 09:26

Dear all,

I am running the CFDEMsolverIB tutorial and I want to visualize my CFD and DEM results in paraview. To visualize this I obtained VTK files via adding reconstructCase="true" to the parCFDEMrun script & command and as I am running on multiple processors I had to add the "reconstructParmesh" command to the parCFDEMrun function.

Now when running the simulation I fall into the following error:

--> FOAM FATAL ERROR:
cell, tetFace and tetPt search failure at position (-0.00079004318 -0.001127873 0.0044064325)

Particle does not reach steady state sedimentation velocity

Submitted by r2d2 on Sun, 01/31/2016 - 17:16

Hey there,
I have a minor problem with the sedimentation velocity of a particle. The Particle is located on the top of an tube and shall sediment to the ground of the tube. I am have chosen the following parameters in the couplingProperties file:

modelType "A";

forceModels
(
DiFeliceDrag
//SchillerNaumannDrag
//KochHillDrag
//MeiLift
//virtualMassForce
gradPForce
viscForce
Archimedes
);

Obtaining CFD vtk files

Submitted by bnaar on Wed, 01/27/2016 - 18:16

When running the standard ErgunTestMPI file using 4 processors and by changing the (CFD) commands in parCFDDEMrun.sh to
#- get VTK data from CFD sim
cd $casePath/CFD
#foamToVTK #- serial run of foamToVTK
source $CFDEM_SRC_DIR/lagrangian/cfdemParticle/etc/functions.sh #- include functions
pseudoParallelRun "foamToVTK" $nrPostProcProcessors #- pseudo parallel run of foamToVTK

I only obtain errors.

And when using the default version

the errors after testing an example of CFDEM-3.0.x

Submitted by yyu on Sun, 01/24/2016 - 23:22

Dear all,

I tried to install openfoam 3.0.0 and Liggghts and coupled them to CFDEM-3.0.x. Everything looks fine,only the last step for cfdemTestTUT. At the last step, I tried to do it step by step. Firstly, the turbulent model and BC were changed. Only openfoam was tested and worked normal, then running ./Allrun.sh, but some errors also came out:

some errors at the coupling CFDEM step

Submitted by yyu on Fri, 01/22/2016 - 19:34

Hi everyone,

I tried to install CFDEM (openfoam 3.0.0 with Liggghts, paraview 4.4.0) on ubuntu 15.10 and followed the installing procedure from CFDEM website (http://www.cfdem.com/system/files/githubaccess_public.pdf). Openfoam3.0.0 and Liggghts work. But some errors happened at the CFDEM coupling in the last step by typing: cfdemCompCFDEM.

Hello.

I've been trying to compile CFDEM coupling, but I get the following errors:

compiling CFDEMcoupling with different OF versions

Hello,

the latest release of CFDEMcouplng-PUBLIC compiles with several different OF versions.
I personally use 2.4.x (see here: https://github.com/CFDEMproject/CFDEMcoupling-PUBLIC/blob/master/src/lag... ) and therefore the settings in the repo should be fine for 2.4.x.

In case you want to compile the CFDEMcoupling toolbox with other OF versions you have the following switches:
