Explicit force coupling

Submitted by vkoppejan on Fri, 05/20/2016 - 16:33

Hi Everyone,

Quite recently this article by (amongst others) Bruno Blais was publised.

http://www.sciencedirect.com.tudelft.idm.oclc.org/science/article/pii/S0...

It mentoins that due to the low minimum fluidization velocity and particle relaxation times the implicit momentum coupling can be problematic due to pressure oscillations.

dynamic group assignment in cfdem

Submitted by kalei on Fri, 05/20/2016 - 15:47

I have a stream of particles in a fluid flow and want to write the data of paticles entering a certain region to a file. To do this I need to dynamically update the group assignments of my particles.
In Liggghts the following works fine:
run 1e5 upto every 100 &
"undump dmp2" &
"group nve_groupOut delete" &
"group nve_groupOut region regOut" &
"dump dmp2 nve_groupOut custom ${outInt} ${path}/DEM/post/dump*.out id type type x y z ix iy iz vx vy vz fx fy fz omegax omegay omegaz radius"

One way couple

Hello all,

I want to validate the drag acting on a particle with a CFD-DEM terminal velocity test. I have created a small domain which is periodic in height direction with particle at the center.

I don't want fluid to feel the movement of particle, else the particle enters the domain already accelerated by the fluid.

Is it possible to get this done on the fly without playing with Ksl in cfdemSolverPiso.C?

thanks!

Kind regards,
Vinay

lagrangian particle properties

Submitted by kalei on Thu, 05/12/2016 - 11:14

I have a general question concerning the accessible properties of the lagrangian particle cloud in CFDEMCoupling.

Looking at the packedBedTemp Tutorial of the cfdemSolverPisoScalar in the lagrangian particle Cloud of the CFD results I can only access the particle properties r and v. However, the DEM results contain a lot of more information about the particle properties, e.g. Temp, ...

Hi all, Hi Christoph,

I am trying to install these two mentioned above software in UBUNTU14.04. Please help me to answer the followings question
1) For Liggghts.
- should i run "make fedora" after "make clean-all" as the instruction in the following link

lagrangian bubble tracking simulation in eulerian fluid phase using CFDEM

Hi guys,

I am going to simulate a number of lagrangian bubbles in eulerian continuum fluid phase using CFDEM-LIGGGHTS-OPENFOAM. I have installed CFDEMProject with LIGGGHTS and OpenFOAM-Paraview.

Can anyone help me by telling is that possible or not and if it is possible, which solvers in CFDEM i should use. And how should i proceed step-by step to do the simulation.
If openfoam can do this, please tell which solver and files in openfoam can do that.

CFDEM and OF 3.0.1, RASProperties request error

Submitted by RH_MVT on Thu, 04/28/2016 - 23:41

Hello everybody,

I compiled OF 3.0.1 and LIGGGHTS 3.3.1 to CFDEM with the additional libs. The compilation went fine.
The problem is that every solver always gets an error either with RAS or laminar as "simulationType", while pisoFoam runs correctly on it's own:

[...]
Selecting incompressible transport model Newtonian
Selecting turbulence model type laminar
