Install CFDEM with foam-extend 3.1

Submitted by waynezw0618 on Sun, 04/10/2016 - 15:33

Dear Everyone:
I have installed foam-extend 3.1 with ubuntu 15.01 here on my local machine. I want to install CFDEM with this OF as I noticed CFDEM 3.00 is compatible with of30 and Ext 32. But when I run cfdemSysTest. I got following information:
mpic++:
/home/zhang/foam/foam-extend-3.1/ThirdParty/packages/openmpi-1.6.5/platforms/linuxGccDPOpt/bin/mpic++

Hello,
I am trying to compile CFDDEM. I recieve this error. As seen below, i have openfoam version 2.3.1. Ligghts is already compiled and works fine for me.
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [/home/rhewum/OpenFOAM/rhewum-2.3.1/platforms/linux64GccDPOpt/bin/cfdemPostproc] Error 1

Multiple blocks in Blockmesh problems - cfdemsolverIB

Submitted by bnaar on Fri, 04/01/2016 - 14:50

Dear all,

My problem is within combining multiple blocks within the CFD blockmesh (using uniform mesh cells), which results in a badly calculated void fraction.

For my problem I do not want to use a typical duct (1 block) but a cylinder (many blocks). In order to simulate such a geometry the cfdemsolverIB requires uniform cells. Combining multiple blocks in the BlockMesh can approximate a cylinder using uniform cells (see figure).

Part of the Blockmesh will then look like:

Error estimation for coupling procedure in cfdemSolverIB

Submitted by jpola on Thu, 03/31/2016 - 12:40

Hi,

For some time I'm using cfdemSolverIB for my research purposes. Thanks for this project, you have made a great job. During the reading of some related papers I didn't found anything regarding the error analysis for coupling procedure.

In example, the original Issa's paper about the PISO algorithm he gives a proof that we need two corrector procedures per time step required to achieve errors of order: O(∆t^4) for velocity and O(∆t^3) pressure.

Some models not found in CFDEM Manuals

Submitted by NTT1508 on Wed, 03/30/2016 - 03:50

Dear DCS team,

I hope I am using a right version of CFDEM 3.0 Manual, but I cannot find out the description for several newly added models such as field time average model; volume weighted average model... I just want to quickly understand how these new model work in CFDEM3.0.

Thanks,

Particle interaction cfdemsolverIB

Submitted by bnaar on Tue, 03/22/2016 - 15:02

Dear all,

When I simulate particle interactions in a flow field, the Courant number blows up during collision and, therefore, in combination with the error "Atom sorting has bin size = 0.0", my simulation stops!

Any tips on where to pay attention on when simulating particle interactions (within a fluid flow field) in CFDEM?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Boris
