How to start best

Submitted by MartinD on Wed, 02/26/2014 - 17:43

Hi everybody,

as I am still a rookie using CFDEM perhaps your could give me some advices basing on your experience.

Recently I downloaded and installed the LIGGGHTS and CFDEMcoupling packages as described in the installation manual. Everything seemed to work fine.

Using "cfdemSysTest" tells me that

valid:NO critical:no - $CFDEM_PIZZA_DIR = /home/dorn/LIGGGHTS/PIZZA/gran_pizza_17Aug10/src does not exist

the specification of paths of Pizza is not correct. --> What to do in that case?

How to run Liggghts in CFDEM

Submitted by lixuethermal on Tue, 02/25/2014 - 06:19

I have installed CFDEM and run some cases successfully.

In order to save computational time, I like to run Liggghts first to get the initial position of particles and then use the results as restart file for CFDEM calculation.

Does anyone can tell me how to run Liggghts separately ? The command Liggghts does not work.

Many thanks

Peter

Compile LIGGGHTS failed

Submitted by pipegaldames on Mon, 02/24/2014 - 20:05

Hi everyone,

I tried the installation of new version CFDEMcoupling 2.6.0 released, and when I try to compile LIGGGHTS with "cfdemCompLIG", appears next message:

The Open MPI wrapper compiler was unable to find the specified compiler
no in your PATH.

Note that this compiler was either specified at configure time or in
one of several possible environment variables.

--------------------------------

Finally appears error messages and the compilation failed. Any help for fix this problem?

Felipe.

CFDEM Compilation problem on Mac OS X 10.7

Submitted by tbertrand on Tue, 02/18/2014 - 22:52

Hi guys,

I have a compilation problem while trying to install CFDEM on mac OS X 10.7.
I installed OpenFoam 2.1.1 and LIGGGHTS. The output of cfdemSysTest looks good to me:

*******************
system settings:
*******************
CFDEM_VERSION=PUBLIC
couple to OF_VERSION=2.1.1
compile option=Opt

does mesh/surface/stress/servo take the fluid pressure into consideration

Submitted by coffeeorme123 on Tue, 02/18/2014 - 10:12

Hi, everybody,
I am trying to use the mesh/surface/stress/servo command of liggghts to realize a constant-stress wall in a CFDEM case. I know that when establishing case using liggghts solely, the servo wall works fine. But if I want to use this command in a two-phase system including fluid and particles, does it consider the pressure which is induced by the fluid phase when adjusting the stress? Could anyone help me?~~

Thanks !

Is this a installation problem?

Submitted by fanfengxian on Fri, 02/14/2014 - 18:17

Dear all,

I installed CFD-DEM. After Compiling LIGGGHTS and CFDEM coupling, it gave:
"Note: the list of utilities compiled might be incomplete.
please check /nishome/fengxian/CFDEM/CFDEMcoupling-PUBLIC-2.1.x/applications/utilities for more utilities available"

Is this a problem?

Thanks and Regards.

Bug report in virtualMassForce model

Submitted by rqwang on Fri, 02/14/2014 - 02:32

Hi, Chris and Alice,

I might find a bug in virtualMassForce model.

1. when a particle is inserted, UrelOld is always some random number, e.g. vector(1,1,1), because there is no previous Ur. So the first calculation is wrong with it.

2. when the particle moves from one processor to another, UrelOld is wrong again, because the new processor has no record of previous UrelOld.

The error while running tutorials

Submitted by lixuethermal on Sun, 02/09/2014 - 02:24

Dear all

I have downloaded and installed OF and Ligghts. I did everyting following the guideline. it seems that the compilation works out, but the turotials can not be run properly.

First, when I try "cfdemTestTUT" and get error as

"cannot remove `cfdemSolverPiso_settlingTestMPI.eps'"

Then I go to the CFD forlder and put "mpirun -np 2 cfdemSolverPiso -parallel"

and get the following errors:

the question about "cfdemCompLIG"

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 02/06/2014 - 08:15

Dear all

I am also trying to compile CFDEM with OF 2.2.2.

However, when I tried to run "cfdemCompLIG", which is supposed to compile LIGGGHTS only, my computer was frozen. I am not sure if that error was because OF 2.2.2. If that is the case I will re-install previous version of OF.

By the way, in that guideline of installation, the error of setting environmental variables was very frustrating. I am not sure if I did the right correction on this. Could anyone post the right version?

Many thanks
