CFDEM®coupling - User Forum

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with the test twoSpheresGlowinski.
Other tests are working (ErgunMPI, settlingTestMPI, packedBedTemp), so I presume that cfdemSolverPiso and cfdemSolverPisoScalar do work normally.

What could cause a particular solver to be not compiled properly?

Are there any more tutorials/examples available?
Such as those shown in CFDEM-FEATURES page.
In particular I would be interested in "Sedimentation" , "multisphere method" and "fluidised bed" test cases.

I have set up a coupled CFD+DEM simulation to study the particles temperature drop by the cold wind. The initial particle temperature is 393K, the initial wind temperature is 293K. However, after 1800s, the lowest particle temperature is 248K (-25C) and highest temperature is 549K (275C). For the whole system at initial, the highest temperature is 393K and lowest temperature is 293K. It seems unreasonable for the particle temperature drop or increase so much. Could anyone please discuss about the possible reasons for that?

Dear all

Openfoam 2.3.0 has been issued, and it has DPM method.

Does anyone has the experience of the comparision of DPM and DEM? It looks DPM also considers the collision between particles but in a "global" way, which allows the huge number of particles.

Does anyone has comments ont that?

I'm trying to compile CFDEM. The compilation of OpenFoam was sucesscfull, and now I turn to compile LIGGGHTS.
I followed the instructions in githubaccess_public.pdf.

The test was sucessful. Executing cfdemSysTest results in:

couple to OF_VERSION=2.3.0
compile option=Opt

Can the CFDEM be coupled with OpenFOAM-2.3.x? I am now installing OoenFOAM-2.3.x but I am wondering if I could get an answer before installation is done.

I read the dipl. thesis of JUK on the VOF method in CFDEM. I have a question about the modified VOF method, espeically the source term at the RHS.

Hi,

I set up a coupled simulation where particles are conveyed within an air stream into a container. After a while I want to unfix the bottom of the container to empty.
Within a DEM simulation I would do it with a "run xxx upto" command and than a "unfix" command. But according my understanding in a coupled simulation (CFDEM) there is always one timestep ("run 1") executed. How can I execute a unfix command after a specific time? Is it possible with a liggghtscommand within the CFD/constant folder?
