Openfoam 2.3.0 DPM

Submitted by lixuethermal on Mon, 05/12/2014 - 04:09

Dear all

Openfoam 2.3.0 has been issued, and it has DPM method.

Does anyone has the experience of the comparision of DPM and DEM? It looks DPM also considers the collision between particles but in a "global" way, which allows the huge number of particles.

Does anyone has comments ont that?

Hello

I'm trying to compile CFDEM. The compilation of OpenFoam was sucesscfull, and now I turn to compile LIGGGHTS.
I followed the instructions in githubaccess_public.pdf.

The test was sucessful. Executing cfdemSysTest results in:

*******************
system settings:
*******************
CFDEM_VERSION=PUBLIC
couple to OF_VERSION=2.3.0
compile option=Opt

Any literaturs/papers on the modified VOF alpha Equation in CFDEM?

Submitted by keepfit on Thu, 04/17/2014 - 20:31

Dear CFDEM/LIGGGHTS developers,

I read the dipl. thesis of JUK on the VOF method in CFDEM. I have a question about the modified VOF method, espeically the source term at the RHS.

latex:

\begin{equation}
\frac{\partial \alpha_1}{\partial t} + \nabla \cdot (\alpha_1 \alpha_f u_f) - \nabla \cdot (\alpha_1 (1-\alpha_1) u_{ra}) = - \alpha_1 \frac{\partial \alpha_1}{\partial t}
\end{equation}

failed CFDEM compile

Hi,

I am seeking help with the installation of CFDEM. Specifically, on a failed compilation attempt I receive the output that follows.

Can someone please shed some light on this issue?

Regards,
Chris Blyton

unfix at specific time step CFDEM

Submitted by uhelfenstein on Thu, 04/03/2014 - 17:37

Hi,

I set up a coupled simulation where particles are conveyed within an air stream into a container. After a while I want to unfix the bottom of the container to empty.
Within a DEM simulation I would do it with a "run xxx upto" command and than a "unfix" command. But according my understanding in a coupled simulation (CFDEM) there is always one timestep ("run 1") executed. How can I execute a unfix command after a specific time? Is it possible with a liggghtscommand within the CFD/constant folder?

Thanks for Help,

Urs

Anyone able to do wall temperatures?

Submitted by jtvanlew on Wed, 03/19/2014 - 04:40

I had taken a break from the CFD-DEM until this last week. I installed the latest version of LIGGGHTS and CFDEMCOUPLING and when I run my (updated) input scripts, I get crazy errors when I from temperature on any walls. The first try was with primitive Hertzian walls. I tried again with a mesh and still got errors that kill the simulation.
