CFDEM compile error - mkdir: cannot create directory ‘’: No such file or directory

Submitted by John on Fri, 09/26/2014 - 16:52

Hi,

I have problems compiling CFDEM. The solution to a similar problem (http://www.cfdem.com/forums/update-cfdem-251-compile-error) did not help.
The first error of this kind happens at the end of the submodel compilation.

error with transportproperties when run coupling

Submitted by wangyin47 on Fri, 09/05/2014 - 10:37

Hi, there

When I ran my own case manually, I encountered errors as follows,
1. can you please check it and help me fix it?
2. CFDEMcoupling allows a multi-phase property definition in OpenFOAM?, e.g., air and water phases?

many thanks in advance!

particles effect on fluid 2-way coupling & Ueqn source term

Submitted by dehghan on Wed, 07/30/2014 - 18:52

Hello users:

How does CFDEM calculate particles force on fluid cells?

As I understand , For calculating Drag force on particles we should at first obtain " inter-phase momentum transfer coefficient due to drag" which is shown in Kochhill drag by "betap".

High particle volume fractions in CFDEM

Submitted by evansmuts on Fri, 07/25/2014 - 12:58

Hi everyone

What is the highest particle volume fraction that runs reliably with CFDEM? Has anyone else had experience with this?

I have been running 20% volume fraction (0.8 voidfraction) quite reliably, but when trying to run 30 or 40%, my simulations become very unstable. I have tried reducing the DEM time step (which is supposed to help) but that only made it worse. Increasing the time step helps a little bit, but I am not sure if this is the most correct thing to do.

Coupling crashs after number of particle is increased

Submitted by Wurdon on Tue, 07/22/2014 - 15:18

Dear community,

I am simulating the packing of a chromatography column at Technical University Munich. Therefore I use CFDEMcoupling 2.7.1, LIGGGHTS 3.0.2 and OpenFOAM 2.3.x. I already built some working small scale models (40.000 particles, 4% of the volume of the fullscale experiment) with a discrete particle distribution based on the Ergun Test Case (reversed flow).
