CFDEM simulation of polygon geometries

Submitted by oscar5557 on Mon, 01/26/2015 - 11:16

Hello everybody!
I am going to use CFDEM in my project. I have some question about this package and its potential to simulate the complex shape.

I think the premium version of CFDEM is used to simulate multisphere object. Is that true? Means one has to pay to access this version of CFDEM?

But what about polygon geometries? At least it is possible to use LIGGGHTS, NOT CFEDM to simulate DEM modeling of polygon geometries?

Thanks!

hello everybody
i need help about simulating sand particle size distribution in a hydrocyclone (water/particle) in DEM. i need a good procedure for best simulating. my mesh file is designed in gambit. can i use this file? and can anyone introduce me a good procedure for working in this field?

viscForce Model

Submitted by gabrieleDOF on Tue, 01/20/2015 - 11:30

Dear All,

I am a newbie with CFDEMcoupling code, and I am trying to study the implemented models. At the present I am dealing with the "viscForce" model, and I have a question about how the "divTau" term is computed for compressible flows; the expression I found is the following:

divTauField =
- fvc::laplacian(mufField, U_)
- fvc::div(mufField*dev(fvc::grad(U_)().T()));

What I do not understand is why the "dev" operator is used in place of the "dev2" one.
Does anyone have a suggestion about it?

alpha-equation in cfdemSolverInterFoam

Submitted by elham.nasiri on Sun, 01/11/2015 - 08:22

Hi,
I used the alpha-equation:
( "MULES::explicitSolve(geometricOneField(), alpha1, phi, phiAlpha, volScalarField("Sp", fvc::div(voidfraction*U)),zeroField(), 1, 0) "),
after running the measures of max, min alpha was good but after entry particles in flow, the measure of alpha was very larger than 1 and very smaller than 0! and diverged finally.
I don't know why?

Coupling interFoam and LIGGGHTS

Submitted by naren on Tue, 12/30/2014 - 05:49

Hello All,

Can someone please suggest where do i start (any tutorials or examples) to couple interFoam with LIGGGHTS.
I have simulated my particle phase using liggghts and gas and liquid phase using interFoam (OpenFOAM). I want
to couple them using CFDEM.

Any help will be much appreciated.

compatibility OpenFoam 2.2.1 to LIGGGHTS version 3.0.3 and cfdem-2.7.1

Submitted by elham.nasiri on Sat, 12/27/2014 - 12:02

Hello
I installed OF 2.2.1 , liggghts-3.0.3 and cfdem-2.7.1 on ubuntu 12.04.
I wrote the new solver (coupling interFoam and liggghts) and compiled it successfully. But below error appeared after runnig my simulation!

Dear all,

I have installed cfdem soupling before successfully, I tried to install it on my new computer but the following error occurs when I tried to compile cfdemsolverIB by "wmake"

error:
cfdemSolverIB.C:44:26: fatal error: cfdemCloudIB.H: No such file or directory

here I copy the error completely:

Very lost! VORTEX PANEL METHOD

Submitted by reynolds_master on Sat, 12/13/2014 - 12:17

Hey! I'm asked to compute the pressure coefficient distributions ܿfor the upper and lower surfaces of a NACA0012 airfoil based on the experimental data provided, which is the one I'm attaching in the image. Then, I have to calculate the lift coefficient distributions ܿand the airfoil global lift coefficient.
