Unit conversion to cgs and particle deposition issue

Submitted by syedUConn on Fri, 03/15/2019 - 23:43

Hi, I am apparently a new user of CFDEM. I have two issues:

#1
I wanted to insert a large number of particles 100000, with radius 0.0005 in cgs unit system and wanted to insert few at some interval. Therefore, I used the following in my init script
fix ins all insert/pack seed 32452843 distributiontemplate pdd1 vel constant 0. 0. -3. insert_every 10000 overlapcheck yes all_in yes particles_in_region 100000 region bc

installation problem in "cfdenCompCFDEMuti"

The fowllowing problem comes up when I compile the
cfdenCompCFDEMuti

Here is the messages:
*************************************************************
ubantucl@cl:~$ cfdemCompCFDEMuti

This routine will compile the utilities specified in utilities-list.txt

Please provide the utilities to be compiled in the /home/ubantucl/CFDEM/CFDEMcoupling-PUBLIC-5.x/src/lagrangian/cfdemParticle/etc/utilities-list.txt file.

[Solved] How can I change the density of fluid phase in "cfdemSolverIB"??

Submitted by bhwang on Tue, 02/19/2019 - 04:15

Hi, I'm the beginner for using "cfdemSolverIB", and I want to know changing 'density' of fluid phase.
(I'm using the source code version (3.5.0), not the workbench version.)
In case of 'non-resolved CFD-DEM' (such as cfdemSolverPIso, ...), the 'rho' file is included in the '0' folder in CFD.
However, there is no data for density of fluid phase in the tutorial 'twospheresGlowinski'.

How can I change the density of fluid phase in "cfdemSolverIB"??
Thank you

Hwang

The differences between "couplingInterval" and "couple/cfd couple_every"

Submitted by yirenxindudu on Wed, 02/06/2019 - 12:55

I am newer of CFDEM, recently I was confusing about the differences between "couplingInterval" and "couple/cfd couple_every".
"couplinginterval" locates in CFD/constant/couplingProperties, and "couple/cfd couple_every" is in DEM/in.liggghts_run
both of them are about the coupling properties of CFD-DEM calculation, but what's the difference between them?
Thank you very much!

bigParticle voidFraction doesn't give expected result?

Submitted by govind on Mon, 02/04/2019 - 09:54

Hello,

I am using bigParticle voidFraction model. For that grid size and particle size are equivalent. In couplingDictionary parameters are gives as:
porosity 64.0
weight 0.051625

cfdemCoupling runs nicely but per cell voidfraction doesn't change that much. When I have looked inside the source code, particle volume is multiplied by weight. I didn't get why volume is weighted by weight parameter? For the weight I am giving it reduces the particle volume so I have tried with weight of 64 but with this simulation doesn't run, courant number reaches very high.

CFDEM vs. Lagrangian solvers of OpenFOAM

Submitted by emahvelati on Mon, 02/04/2019 - 00:44

Hi All,

I am in the early stage of CFD-DEM and trying to find the best tool to conduct my research in the fields of solid particles. I am wondering what can be the best choice between CFDEM (OPENFOAM+LIGGGHTS) and original Lagrangian solvers of OpenFOAM? It seems that with LIGGGHTS the computational process can be much faster. Is that true?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
