How to deal with sudden expansion in a pipe.

Submitted by joshyan on Thu, 03/29/2018 - 16:02

Hi,

Apologize for my poor English. I'm simulating a coupled CFD-DEM flow in a pipe with sudden expansion geometry. Blockmesh is used to generate O-block mesh. So, there will be some dense meshs at the slim side. How to deal with this problem when calculating the void fraction?

Huge thanks,
Josh

What happened to the LIGGGHTS/HOTINT Co-Simulation ?

Hi, a more academic question as I'm writing the last pages of my PhD Thesis (hopefully):
What happened to the LIGGGHTS/HOTINT Co-Simulation [1] ? I've noticed that the src is still in lib folder but I didn't find any fix or a control application to use it. Has it ever been possible to couple HOTINT with granular package - or was it limited to SPH Domain?
Is the work still in progress or is it left as it is?

Thanks,
Christian.

Comparison against Comsol - Particle Tracing Module

Submitted by AndresMM on Wed, 12/13/2017 - 10:23

Hi everybody,

I am simulating the behavior of particle suspensions in microfluidic chips in the presence of a force field (magnetism, acoustophoresis, etc.). The simulation basically takes into account three main phenomena: Hydrodynamics (CFD), Particles (LIGGGHTS) and the external field (which is specified in LIGGGHTS).

To be clear, I am using CFDEM for these simulations.

CFDEM Installation using the ".auto" Makefile

Submitted by AndresMM on Thu, 10/12/2017 - 09:57

Just wanted to give some kudos for the .auto Makefile in the current version of LIGGGHTS. I do not know how long it has been there, but it tremendously simplified the installation of CFDEM.

It is specially useful when I am assisting my students during installation in their machines.

Thanks a lot!

Rotating mesh in biaxial motion

I am having difficulties trying to simulate biaxial rotation of an imported mesh.

I am looking the simulate the motion which occurs during rotational moulding where the mould (mesh in this case) rotates around two of its axis.
The current rotation commands within LIGGGHTS that I've found allows rotation to be set to the coordinate system in space but not to the mesh itself, which is where my issue lies.

Run BinFlow example

Submitted by govind on Sun, 07/02/2017 - 16:11

Hi,
I am just new to LIGGGHTS and start learning with example. I want to run Binflow simulation given in tutorials but do not know how to run it. Input script. I had run the simulations given in examples folder but these example contain other things also beside input script such as runPost script etc.
In Binflow only input script is there.
