Generating a sphere at the centre of spherical region

Submitted by Sarwar Zaheer on Thu, 02/27/2025 - 09:50

Hello Everyone,

I have recently started to use LIGGGHTS and loving it so far. I am trying to generate a steel ball of diameter 30 mm inside a defined spherical region, and I want to generate the ball at the center of the region but it is randomly being generated elsewhere. So I want to know if there is any fix or way to generate it at the center.

LIGGGHTS-ANSYS Mechanical coupling for erosion wear modeling

Submitted by Onirban on Tue, 02/04/2025 - 19:20

Hi. I am trying to use LIGGGHTS and ANSYS Mechanical for studying the erosion wear of a mesh. The coupling will be one way coupling. I will transport the LIGGGHTS stress file to ANSYS. I know that you need to export mesh coordinates and the force on the mesh data from LIGGGHTS to ANSYS to do this coupling. Since, I am a beginner, I have a very less idea on how to do it. Could anybody suggest or provide a sample LIGGGHTS script explaining how these results could be exported in CSV format to ANSYS? Thank you

CFDEM (OpenFoam + olaFlow + LIGGGHTS)

Submitted by Ekansh on Tue, 01/21/2025 - 18:52

Hi,

I am planning to couple CFD with DEM to simulate the influence of waves on sand dunes, starting with a wave flume setup. I am relatively new to CFD and DEM. So far, I have prepared my own cases for both CFD and DEM and successfully validated the benchmark particle settling case using CFDEM. Additionally, I have independently used olaFlow with OpenFOAM to generate regular waves.

2024 CFD Challenge on long-term aerosol dispersion

Submitted by jordi.pallares@... on Tue, 10/03/2023 - 10:30

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to participate and contribute to the 2024 International CFD Challenge on the long-range indoor dispersion of pathogen-laden aerosols. The objective of this challenge is to assess the ability of RANS and/or LES to reproduce both the hydrodynamics of the turbulent natural convection and the dispersion of aerosol clouds in a room-sized enclosure. The impact of turbulence modelling will be determined by comparing selected transport metrics to existing DNS results. Further information about the Challenge can be found at

Simplification of a Filter through Porous Region

Submitted by MCG on Sat, 01/28/2023 - 13:09

Hello CFDEM community

In my case I need to model the settling of particles on a Filter.
Is it possible to represent a filter by a porous region through wihich particles do not diffuse?
Or are there any other possibilities to reduce the computational effort of Filter.

Thanks in advance
MCG

LIGGGHTS: Undrained cyclic triaxial test

Submitted by Stephen on Sun, 12/04/2022 - 13:43

I am Stephen and a beginner of LIGGGHTS. I am interested in simulating undrained cyclic triaxial test, but I am not finding the resources, could anyone please share them with me?

This is my e-mail address: akosah@tongji.edu.cn/akosah.as@gmail.com.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Stephen.

Particle growth and shrinkage

Submitted by krobot on Wed, 11/30/2022 - 16:53

I have created a particle growth simulation in LIGGGHTS using fix command:
fix ID group-ID insert/pack seed seed_value distributiontemplate dist-ID general_keywords general_values pack_keywords pack_values ...

I want to shrink the same particle. The growth that has already happened, I want to undo the process overtime again.

I don't understand how to proceed it.
