Tutorials and examples for liggghts

Submitted by snadler on Fri, 05/06/2022 - 15:17

Hello,

We are a very small french research team. And we plane to study the processus of additive manufacturing. The first step is to model the flow of particles on the system. We encounter a few difficulties to understand the behaviour of the software, the underlying physics and we would like to found a easy step by step tutorial and caracteristics examples.

Could you give us some advices to find such sort of documentations and code examples?

Thanks so much,

Bin size or skin value

Submitted by Inderjot Kaur on Mon, 01/17/2022 - 22:43

Hi All,
I am trying to simulate normal particle flow falling freely from hopper. I have read some articles on bin size or skin value. There is still some confusion I have. What is the optimal size of bin or skin? I read somewhere that the bin size of about ~ 4 times the particle radius would be fine. Does bin size affect the final solution?

Error in liggghts simulation!!

Hello all!!

Below is the error that I'm getting, when trying to run my simulation in liggghts.

ERROR on proc 0: Fix nve/sphere requires extended particles (/build/liggghts-QCz4in/liggghts-3.3.1+repack1/src/fix_nve_sphere.cpp:132)

particles released freely from a height

Submitted by nada on Sun, 01/10/2021 - 13:45

Hello,
I am trying to run a simulation where particles released freely from a height of 700 µm, due to gravitational and contact forces, these released powders freely deposited into the box and formed a powder bed. A roller is then applied to spread a 50 µm high layer of metal particles.
Can anyone share a code for that ? With which tutorials I can start or modify it or which command I should use ?
I am actually a total beginner. I would be glad if anyone can help through with the steps involved in the simulation.
thnx.

Can someone help me with DEM - electrostatic simulations?

Submitted by RonaldoCD on Mon, 11/16/2020 - 15:45

Hi,
I would be grateful if someone can help with material about DEM - electrostatic simulations using LIGGGTHS (tutorials, examples, code). I found this example: https://www.cfdem.com/electrostatics. I am new in LIGGGTHS, I will appreciate any kind of help.

how do i know if my numerical model is good?

Submitted by JoseFuentesDl on Tue, 04/28/2020 - 16:56

Hello, I need your help please. I did my thesis and I am not sure of the results, since my tutor does not tell me anything or if they are ok or not. And with the time that has passed it is generating insecurity in them. I think they are fine, but in the end I am only a student, and it is not me who decides if it is fine or not.

My thesis was a numerical simulation of natural convection and surface radiation in closed three-dimensional rooms with different aspect ratios.
