High computing time using IB solver with static mesh

Submitted by Perez16 on Wed, 04/05/2017 - 11:43

Dear CFDEM enthusiasts,

I am currently running a simulation using the IB solver and I am experiencing very high computation times. Does anybody have experience in using this solver and can maybe tell me if this are usual computing times or if I am doing something wrong?

The simulation is running on 4 cores while the Computer posseses 128 GB of RAM. Around 400 particles are in the system but for 50 particles the simulation does not seem to run faster. I am using 4 cells per particle diameter.

verification of dragforce model(such as Defelice)

Submitted by Alex Joe on Wed, 04/05/2017 - 05:09

Hi,
i meet one problem, for single particle settlement in water. The dragforce output from the program and the dragforce calculated using the final settlement velocity and Defelice theoretical equation are a little different. does anyone know the error (about2%) come from?
thanks a lot.

issue with cfdemCompCFDEM

Submitted by Matthew on Wed, 04/05/2017 - 00:44

Hi,
i'm trying to compile CFDEM coupling, after having followed a tutorial found here. I successfully installed OpenFoam 3.0.x and the right LIGGGHTS version. But when i run the command cfdemCompCFDEM to compile CFDEMcoupling, i get this
NB it is just the first lines, but i think that here it is the problem!
Probably, CFDEMcoupling can't see OpenFoam, but it doesn't give me the error when i start the new terminal!

Thank you very much for helping,
Matteo

CFDEM 3.6 compilation error on cluster

Submitted by AliBlues on Wed, 03/29/2017 - 10:15

Hi,
I'm trying to install CFDEM 3.6.1 on a Red Hat linux V6.5, but I receive an error
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
which I cannot figure what it actually means. I've also attached the cfdemSysTest and foamInstallationTest in case it helps.

I would greatly appreciate the help.
Best
Ali

one-way coupling, cfdemSolverIB

Submitted by paulaalejandrayo on Tue, 03/21/2017 - 18:20

Hello, I am sorry if it is obvious but I cannot find an answer. I want to run a simulation in which DEM particles feel fluid but fluid do not feel the particles, is that possible? how should I do? I want something like this "One-way coupled simulation of particles flowing into water basin" (http://www.cfdem.com/more-examples) but I cannot find how to implement this. I am using cfdemSolverIB . Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,
Paula

gravity term of fluid in the default 'cfdemSolverPiso'...

Submitted by bhwang on Tue, 03/21/2017 - 02:44

Is there a 'gravity term' in the default 'cfdemSolverPiso'?
Although there is a 'g' file in the ..../CFD/constant/, but it actually not used in the 'cfdemSolverPiso' algorithm
(I found the command of header file (#include readGravitationalAcceralation.H), but the term 'g' is not actually used.)

Thanks for reading my question : )

LIGGGHTS COMPILATION

Submitted by marcelo on Fri, 03/17/2017 - 18:36

I do:
cfdemSysTest

and all are Valid: Yes.

When I will compile LIGGGHTS(R) make:
sudo make clean-all (in /src dir.)

And do: cfdemCompLIG

OBS: some words are in Portuguese.

The terminal show me:

copying patch files for LIGGGHTS if available
cp: impossível obter estado de '/home/cae/CFDEM/CFDEMcoupling-PUBLIC-3.0.x/src/LIGGGHTSpatch/*': Arquivo ou diretório não encontrado
