Flow Modulation, mesh, cell and Ksl

Submitted by dbcmih001 on Fri, 03/01/2013 - 23:12

Hi

A professor at my university has brought to my attention that if the momentum transfer term, involving Ksl, is computed as occupying an entire single cell, in which a particle is located i.e. for an unresolved case (particle << cells), this could lead to significant flow evolution errors with simulation time. Is this concern valid? And what additional flags or options are required use to produce best flow modulation results.

Also is this concern also valid (if valid at all) for dilute systems?

Thanks

Compillation problems OF 2.1.1 + LIGGHTS 2.2.4 + CFDEMcoupling 2.1.1

Submitted by hseybold on Mon, 02/25/2013 - 17:25

Hi,
I used OF and LAMMPS before, but I am quite new to LIGGGHTS and the CFDEM coupling.
I successfully compiled OF and ParaView and configures the paths.
The system test and the LIGGGHTS compillations seem to work fine, but I cannot get the CFDEM-couling compilled.
Below a more detailed description of the error messages. Any help and hints are appreciated.

Thanks a lot
hansjoerg

dragmodel problem

Submitted by openfoam on Sat, 02/23/2013 - 02:34

I simulate the bubbles move up in the water where bubbles are regarded as the discrete phase. In the default solver, the p field is not include gravity effect. Now I add gravity effect in the p formulation and compile the solver. When I run the simulation wihout drag force, I think the gradP force works fine, but if I add the drag force, bubbles don't move up and their movement become out of order. I don't kown what is wrong with it, It's the solver problem or wrong initial conditions or any other problem?anther problem is that some bubbles can cross the draft tube wall.

Problem running CFDEM Examples

Hello CFDEM Users,

I tried to install CFDEM on Ubuntu machine. After installing, I didn't manage to run the tutorials. So, I tried to run the following example :
~/CFDEM/CFDEMcoupling-PUBLIC-2.1.0/tutorials/cfdemSolverPiso/settlingTestMPI/CFD

using the command :
mpirun -np 2 cfdemSolverPiso -parallel

and I found the follwoing error :

--> FOAM FATAL ERROR:
bool IPstream::init(int& argc, char**& argv) : attempt to run parallel on 1 processor

Error in running tutorial

Hi,

1. I was able to install cfdem packages along with LIGGGHTS and OpenFOAM 2.1.x. I had no issues during the installation.

2. I was able to run the cfdemSolverIB tutorial. However, I had the following errors running the EurgentestMPI.

Reading momentum exchange field Ksl

Reading voidfraction field voidfraction = (Vgas/Vparticle)

Creating dummy density field rho

Reading particle velocity field Us

Reading/calculating face flux field phi
