CFDEM and wear on walls

Submitted by linnemann on Tue, 05/07/2013 - 10:27

In LIGGGHTS we have the example "chute_wear" which uses the Finnie model to estimate wear.

Is the same thing avaliable using CFDEM?

I havent been able to find any documentation and tutorials regarding CFDEM in this area.

It could be nice to have a simple elbow bend example of how wear and CFDEM is working together.

Another question.
Is it possible to use a velocity field from OpenFOAM in LIGGGHTS as a simple 1-way coupling?

Errors on building CFDEM

Submitted by colin_bannister on Thu, 05/02/2013 - 17:10

Having problems at the last stage of building CFDEM.

The cfdemSysTest works fine, and cfdemCompLIG seems to work ok.

However when I run cfdemCompCFDEM, I hit problems. Initially I had a problem which indicated a missing library, namely:

liblagrangianCFDEM-PUBLIC-2.1.1

However I spotted a liblagrangian.so in one of the lib directories it was scanning, i.e. $HOME/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-2.1.1/platforms/linuxGccDPOpt/lib

so I put a symlink in
lrwxrwxrwx 1 cczcb cczcb 18 May 2 15:52 liblagrangianCFDEM-PUBLIC-2.1.1.so -> ./liblagrangian.so

LIGGGHTS compiling problem

Submitted by e24242424 on Wed, 05/01/2013 - 19:16

Hi everyone,
I am installing CFDEM coupling according githubAccess_public.pdf. Everything is good until the command "cfdemCompLIG". After I typed in this command, it started compiling but soon dead. Everything is frozen and I need to shut down the computer. I notice that others faced the same problem before. But I can not find the solution.

Please give me some suggestions. Thank you.

Solver CFDEM

Submitted by pipegaldames on Tue, 04/30/2013 - 17:06

Hi everyone, I try use CFDEM for my own case, for this I have the script of the CFD part using the solver "interFoam" of openFOAM and now I need it couple with LIGGGHTS, I was watching the tutorials of CFDEM and the solvers are cfdemSolverIB, cfdemSolverPiso, cfdemSolverPisoScalar and things like that. My question is , is possible coupling my case of openFOAM with LIGGGHTS ? , and, how add the solver "interFoam" in the CFDEM script ? .
Regards.

packedBedTemp case

Hi All,

When I went through the case of packedBedTemp, I have some questions.

1. In the couplingProperties file, for LaEuScalarTempProps, it writes
LaEuScalarTempProps
{
velFieldName "U";
tempFieldName "T";
voidfractionFieldName "voidfraction";
tempSourceFieldName "Tsource";
partTempName "Temp";
partHeatFluxName "convectiveHeatFlux";
lambda 0.0256;
Cp 1007;
densityFieldName "rho";
}

But I could not find the "Temp" and "convectiveHeatFlux" file.

output different forces on particles and wall

Submitted by run_cfd on Fri, 04/26/2013 - 09:11

Hello CFDEM users,

I want to output different forces acting on particles such as normal contact force , normal damping force, tangential contact force, tangential damping force, drag force, pressure gradient force etc in xyz directions and gravity force as well. Also I would like to output these forces acting on wall (stl boundary). I would appreciate if somebody guide me in preparing the input script needed to output these.

With Best Regards,

big particle algo found more cells (1004) than storage is prepered (1000)

Submitted by vonboetticher on Mon, 04/22/2013 - 09:38

Hello, I work with resolved CFDEM and it seems there is alimit in the number of cells that can be inside of a particle. I get the error:

big particle algo found more cells (1004) than storage is prepered (1000)

Anyone faces the same problem?

Cfdem in parallel

Submitted by rfbrpr on Fri, 04/19/2013 - 13:53

Hello:

Just a simple question. When I run CFDEM in parallel I have to put in file parCFDDEMrun.sh the required number of processors. Additionally I have to put it in decomposeParDict for OpenFOAM. Then my question is, do I have to put the number of processors in file in.liggghts_init of LIGGGHTS using the command processors?.

Best regards.
