void fraction model - Divided or Gauss

Submitted by yesaswi92 on Wed, 02/07/2018 - 18:21

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate the heat trasnfer in a cylindrical chamber filled with particles. The particles are slightly bigger than the mesh cell. At the very maximum, a particle could span across 8 cfdMeshCellCenters at a time. So, I'm confused about the void fraction model to be used - especially between Divided and Gauss Model.

CFDEM installation

Submitted by CFD_DEM on Mon, 01/29/2018 - 18:55

Hi,
I have managed to install CFDEM on my local machine. I am trying to install CFDEM on university hpc. I have managed to compile liggghts code. As I am compiling CFEDEM i get log_compile_result_src_fail . I have attached log file for compileCFDEMcoupling_cfdemParticle. Also if I run solver with failed source log file I get following error (log file with name slurm-450370.txt as attached) after running in parallel. I am not sure where exactly I am doing wrong while compiling or running case. I am using OpenFOAM-3.0.0 as it is installed on hpc.

Thank you

Can someone brief what useDDTvoidfraction does?

Submitted by yesaswi92 on Mon, 01/29/2018 - 00:54

Hello,

I am going through the void-fraction tutorial example and found this keyword useDDTvoidfraction in the coupling properties. Can someone briefly explain what role does that play and what its options are. In the file I'm looking at, it has
useDDTvoidfraction b

I can't find the source-code associated with it, neither any documentation.

Thanks.

Yesaswi.

Post-processing: How to match the timestamps for OpenFOAM and LIGGGHTS results in Paraview?

Submitted by yesaswi92 on Sat, 01/27/2018 - 03:49

Hello,

I am printing results from OpenFOAM and LIGGGHTS at the same frequency, so that when I view them in paraview, I can import the CFD files (results.foam) and DEM files (dump*.liggghts_run), and animate both the flow and particles together.

'application' in controlDict file: CFDEM Coupling

Hello,

I am going through the ErgunTestMPI_restart tutorial and found that in the controlDict file (), the application is set to pisoFoam instead of cfdemSolverPiso. This is the file, I'm referring to: https://github.com/CFDEMproject/CFDEMcoupling-PUBLIC/blob/master/tutoria...

CFDEM simulation stopped with a sudden change of Courant number and particle number

Submitted by Rachel on Wed, 01/24/2018 - 20:14

Hi,

I am now facing a strange problem with my simulation. I have successfully run my CFDEM code for more than 12 sec with the courant number to be about 0.01. However, in the following step after time 12.2965s, the courant number suddenly increased to more than 1000 and stopped after several step and my particles also left the calculation region in a few steps. I didn't change any boundary conditions during this simulation, why could this sudden stop happen?

About GaussVoidFraction model in CFDEM

Dear CFDEM community,

Currently we are simulating particle-laden flow in a pipe using DNS-DEM or LES-DEM. The coarse particles we are using are bigger than the CFD cell. When considering the unresolved approach, we tried the GaussVoidFraction model, but got the following error

Selecting voidFractionModel Gauss

W A R N I N G - do not use in combination with differentialRegion model!

This model does not yet work properly - Eqns need to be revised!!!

Installing OpenFOAM and Coupling...

Submitted by rpillers on Sun, 01/21/2018 - 21:41

I am working on establishing a simulation environment on my Windows 10 machine using the Ubuntu environment. The simulation I need to achieve requires the movement of particles (~8.0mm dia) by air. My understanding is that I need to install LIGGGHTS, CFDEMCoupling and OpenFOAM. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that?
