Start the CFD first, then coupling DEM.

Submitted by Zhenyu_Drew on Sat, 06/17/2023 - 11:37

Hi everyone,

I am currently using the CFDEM coupling, and trying to figure out how to solve a steady state simulation first and use it as initial conditions, or if there is another way to start the case, solve the CFD first, and then start the coupling. I don't find the related command for 'liggghts command' or 'couplingproperties' in the guide

I tried the 'mapfield' command, but the Ksl and other initial files of the particle may lead to an error. I don't know what to do now.

Resolved superquadric solver

When will the resolvable hyperquadric solver be added to the public version of CFDEM? In “Modelling superquadric particles in DEM and CFD-DEM: implementation, validation and application in an open-source” In this paper, the framework mentions the existing superquadric solver (cfdemSolverHFDIBM), which will be added to CFDEM in 2018.

Moving mesh using dynamicMeshDict in cfdemSolverPISO tutorial case

Submitted by kominami on Sun, 05/14/2023 - 18:36

Hello all,

I am planning to use dynamicMeshDict in the cfdemSolverPISO tutorial case (settingTestMPI) to induce mesh oscillation within the computational domain. However, despite my attempts, I have observed that the mesh does not appear to be moving as intended. Can you please provide me with insights on the correct usage of dynamicMeshDict for achieving mesh motion? I would appreciate your guidance and assistance regarding this matter.

Installation on ubuntu 22.04 under windows

Submitted by fhjimene on Mon, 04/17/2023 - 16:14

Hello,

I'm trying to install CFDEM following the instructions in https://www.cfdem.com/media/CFDEM/docu/CFDEMcoupling_Manual.html#install...

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 under windows 11.

However, in part "Setup and compile OpenFOAM®" there is no command foamSystemCheck (but there are others like foamVersion or foamSearch). Then I can execute the Allwmake without errors.

Non-uniform fluid flow

Submitted by Thao on Wed, 03/22/2023 - 23:44

Hi CFDEM users,

Recently, I am conducting a CFDEM coupling to simulate the flow of smaller fine particles into the porous media under the pressure-driven fluid flow. However, I somehow observed the non-uniform pattern of the fluid flow as in some areas, the fines particles seem stuck and the flow seems less uniform in these areas. I am not sure why this happens? I initially thought that it might due to the communication errors between different processors so I changed the n_processors from 2 2 1 to 4 1 1. However, the problem still persists.

How to write eulerian force field due to the particles

Submitted by Coffeebean2020 on Tue, 03/21/2023 - 10:13

Hi everyone,

I'm doing investigations with the cfdemSolverIB. The solver runs quite fine!

Currently, I would like to write the eulerian force due to the immersed boundary.

Could anyone give me any hints on how to output the force field data?

Kind regards
Lisa

Memory usage using cfdemSolverIB

Submitted by lst1121x on Tue, 02/14/2023 - 01:42

Hi,
I am trying to use the cfdemSolverIB to conduct the resolved modeling. But I found the cfdemSolverIB results in huge memory usage. I used 24 cores with 96G memory, but only about 200 particles I can inject in my simulation. More particle injection will stop the simulation (memory use up). Very grateful for any clues why memory usage is so huge with cfdemSolverIB or/and how I can fix this issue.

Simplification of a Filter through Porous Region

Submitted by MCG on Sat, 01/28/2023 - 13:09

Hello CFDEM community

In my case I need to model the settling of particles on a Filter.
Is it possible to represent a filter by a porous region through wihich particles do not diffuse?
Or are there any other possibilities to reduce the computational effort of Filter.

Thanks in advance
MCG
