cfdemSolverIB Segfault in buildLabelHashSet for high resolution

Submitted by shepherd on Tue, 04/23/2024 - 00:31

Hello,

I keep getting a segmentation fault when I start approaching 40 cells / diameter. Under 30 cells / diameter is fine, and I have this issue both on my laptop and the cluster at my univesity. I'm running this with cfdem-pfm, though I recall having what initially appeared to be the same problem with cfdem-public. I've narrowed down the issue to the buildLabelHashSet function in IBvoidfraction.C. To determine this, I put an info warning around when it's called:

Problem VTK_MAJOR_VERSION

Submitted by Zsang on Thu, 04/11/2024 - 11:46

Hello everyone,

I am trying to install CFDEMcoupling on Fedora Linux.

Generally I am following the installation of CFDEMcoupling from :https://www.cfdem.com/media/CFDEM/docu/CFDEMcoupling_Manual.html

For now the good thing is that I have downloaded all software and compiled OpenFOAM successfully, so the only work is the last step to compile LIGGGHTS® and CFDEM®coupling with ‘cfdemCompCFDEMall’ command. However the problem occurs.

Single Particle falling in Air or Viscous Medium

Submitted by cho470 on Sun, 03/24/2024 - 17:58

Hi everyone,

I'm a new user to LIGGGHTS, and I'm having a tough time creating a simple simulation.

I want to create a simulation where a single particle (metal particle) falling from air and another simulation where a single particle is falling in viscous medium (like a resin).
When a particle falls in air, it'd just have a gravity force acting downwards on a particle.
When a particle falls in a viscous medium, it'd have a drag force acting on the system. So, how can I add drag force acting on the particle

Newest OpenFOAM version (ESI Group)

Submitted by alessandro.romano on Fri, 02/09/2024 - 09:18

Good morning, I am very interested in CFDEMcoupling for research purposes. I have a simple question. Which is the last OpenFOAM version (ESI Group) that can be used for compiling with the latest CFDEMcoupling 3.8.0? Apparently, it is the very old v1612+ (14 versions have been released after this). Cannot be compiled on newer OpenFOAM versions? A lot of feature have been added in newer versions. Plus, it is not easy to compile in newer Ubuntu releases (e.g., 20.04 LTS, 22.04 LTS). Thanks in advance for your reply.

Help Needed: Issue with Printing Group Atom Count to File in CFD-DEM LIGGGHTS Command

Submitted by fanyihui22 on Sat, 01/06/2024 - 14:53

Dear all,

We defined a group in LiggghtsCommand) , and then plan to print the total number of atoms in the group to a file.

executeProps0
{
command
(
group dele variable melt // melt was defined in liggghts
variable num equal count(dele)
print $num append noBlanks nummelt dot txt
);
runFirst off;
runLast off;
runEveryCouplingStep 1;
runEveryWriteStep off;
verbose;
}

Error while executing .runMe.sh (wrt, excavator tutorial from YouTube)

Hi all,

I was following this document and everything went as expected until the .runMe.sh step
https://www.engineerdo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Installation_CFDEM...
I am trying to install this on my university computer to run a few Sims.
I see the following error; please give me a few hints on how I could solve this problem.

Compatibility with newer OpenFoam versions

Submitted by cnx on Fri, 11/10/2023 - 06:35

It seems the currently recommended OpenFoam version for compiling with the latest CFDEMcoupling 3.8.0 is version 5.x. However, this is a very old OpenFoam version, and I wonder if there are any reasons why the newer versions such as 7 or 8 cannot be used. Is there any experience on coupling with newer OpenFoam versions?

How to generate flat surface

Submitted by NTNHAN on Sat, 10/21/2023 - 10:05

Hello everyone,

I am beginer in CFD-DEM. I want to simulate the movement of soil particles under fluid flow.

Firstly, I generated the flow channel using Blender. Next, I used HYLEX-OS for CFD. After that, I used LIGGGHTS to create the particles. I have a problem when generating a flatbed.

Please help me solve it, if you have documents related to this problem, please share them with me.

I also attached my file below, if you have time, please have a look.

Thank you so much.

Best regards.
