Converting dump files to vtk

Submitted by sanjaysaroj on Tue, 06/26/2012 - 12:34
    Hi all,
I have installed OpenFOAM, Liggghts and performed CFDEM coupling, then to run a example "packing" of liggghts.I executed liggghts by which dump files were created in post folder of example file.I have a problem converting these dump files to vtk using pizza and lpp, I feel I don't know how to proceed for conversion after extracting the tar files of pizza or lpp.Do i need to install other packages like vmd, OpenGL etc... for pizza to run. I was also trying to include dump plugin for paraview but i could not succeed.

Paraview

Submitted by arjunkalbag on Mon, 06/18/2012 - 16:15

I created a simple test simulation of 1000 particles in a rotating cylinder with periodic boundaries in the axial dimension. I dumped the simulation into .xyz file format. I loaded the results directly into ParaView using File>Open. It shows me the dialog box Open Data with...and two reader options PLOT3D and XMol. Whichever I choose I find there are no particles loaded into the viewer. What am I doing wrong?

Voro++ results to ParaView

Submitted by flobot on Wed, 05/02/2012 - 09:50

Dear all,

I'm playing around with voro++ and was wondering if anyone out there managed to write a script to show the voronoi cells in paraview. I know voro comes with POV ray support but I would rather have all the data/postprocessing in one program (=Paraview). I am thinking about extending the voro++ code to have some functions that could be used to write VTK files for paraview but I am still wondering which of the possible Paraview input formats is the best for this purpose.
Any recommendations, code fragments or help on this ?

Thanks.

Paraview error with

Submitted by Silias on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 16:48

Hi everybody,

I get for some particular kind of simulations (3D simulation, but for simulating "quasi-2D" I use a very narrow simulation box in the y-dimension and additionaly this command: fix setforce all setforce NULL 0 NULL) this strange error message in Paraview.

"
Error reading ascii data. Possible mismatch of datasize with declaration.

How to quantitatively analyse dump-files of UCT

Submitted by Silias on Wed, 04/11/2012 - 15:51

Hello everybody,

I want to simulate some experimental tests, like triaxial compression tests, shear tests and uniaxial compression tests. Herefore I want to use and augment the examples "compression" and "compression_triaxial" (which are not part anymore of the actual liggghts-package, I think).
My idea for an uniaxial compression test is, to add xplane and yplane to the example "compression" to have a rigid quadratic box, whose cover plate moves with a linear velocity into the bulk material, to simulate the compression.

multiple file parsing, error with lpp

Submitted by tdl on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 16:44

Hello, it's me again with another weird issue.
I have run some test (this time with small dump files).
The problem is, when I run lpp on the data files I
get the following error message

Exception RuntimeError: RuntimeError('cannot join current thread',) in ignored

And the resulting files show a clearly broken
behavior.
The file name themselves appear to be incorrect.
I am simply naming the dump files "step_N" for
a dump at a given time step, and i run lpp on all
the files with "lpp *".
Am I doing something naively wrong?
Thanks

noob vs lpp, huge file

Submitted by tdl on Tue, 02/28/2012 - 14:53

Dear all,
I have performed a test simulation that produced an enormous dump file (8gb).
The problem is lpp hangs and python goes to "sleep" after a few minutes of
intense calculations. No file gets written at all.
I was wondering if it is my own fault for writing just one large dump file, or
something? Can somebody give me some advice?
Thank you,
AS

ParaView 3.14.0 and stl

Claudio Wolfer's picture
Submitted by Claudio Wolfer on Mon, 02/27/2012 - 09:36

Hi all

Writing a picture sequence with "Save Animation" in ParaView 3.12.0 results in memory overflow and crashes PV. To overcome this problem I installed Paraview 3.14.0. But there I can not visualize the .stl-files despite the format is known in the format select list.

Does anybody know how to write picture sequences without memory problems in PV12? Or does anybody know why PV14 can not read simple .stl-files?

Thnx
Claudio
