How to use periodic boundaries so as to reduce the calculation time

Hi,

I am recently seeking for how to exert periodic boundaries using LIGGGHTS, but I cannot find anything in the online documentation. As I know, this function can severely reduce the calculation time and improve our simulation efficiency. Could anyone familiar with this function give us some clues? Thanks ahead!

Best regards,
Rachel

Hi,

periodic boundaries have been part of LIGGGHTS since a very long time. See the boundary command and in particular the p option.

Hi Arno,

Yes, you are right. However, if we want to exert stress wall such as servo stl walls on a certain boundary of particles, just using boundary command p option seems to be not enough. We would no longer be able to exert a certain confining pressure on the boundary. Therefore, my question is whether there is any method that we exert periodic boundaries while maintaining the stress of the boundaries. Many thanks.

Best,
Rachel

I'm sorry I don't understand what you are trying to achieve. Do you want to have a pressure exerted by the periodic boundary? (That wouldn't make any sense).
