Simulation region: slice of cylinder

Submitted by riegera on Tue, 05/19/2015 - 00:06

Hello Liggghts Users,

I wonder wether or not it is possible to create a simulation region that is a slice of a cylinder. For clarification:

I model a rotary drum. The drum is only partially filled by say 20% by volume. Subsequently the cross-section of the drum will only be filled to a height h over the entire length of the drum. Now I wonder is there any method to create a simulation domain of this geometry via the region command. If this is not directly possible, is there any work-around to achieve this goal. Could I provide an stl-geometry of the region and use this to define the simulation box.

Best regards,
André

I think you could do this by importing an STL geometry of the part of the drum of interest and using a surface_ang_vel option on the fix_mesh_surface to impart conveyor belt like motion. Will need to be careful not to lose particles. What's the problem with using the entire drum? Spatial decomposition not efficient? May try using the balance command to make things more efficient.
