neighbor multi for granular systems

Submitted by June on Sun, 01/24/2021 - 06:11

Dear LIGGGHTS users,

In my granular systems, the largest particle diameter is 50 times the smallest particle diameter, and it is inefficient to use a single set of bins. For example, the simulation time of a mono disperse particle system is much shorter than that of binary particle system with the same particle number.

But, according to the manul: the multi style is a modified binning algorithm that is useful for systems with a wide range of cutoff distances. However, for granular systems optimization is automatically performed with the single style, so multi is not necessary/available for granular systems.

Then, how can I set the neighbor to increase the computational efficiency for this binary granular system with wide particle size range?

Thank you in advance.

Best wishes,
June

HI

Just need to ask this
How have created the poly disperse particle system ?
There are only two ways to do (as far as i know) by using multiple-template or need use Gaussian command (not available in latest release of LIGGGHTS)

I guess appropriate neighbour bin size is important in that poly disperse system.
it must be in the order of particle radius.
In you case might be average particle radius will make more sense.

I hope it would be helpful

share your experience for the same !

Thanks

Happy learning !!
