Hi everyone,
I noticed that a lot of papers suggested reducing Young's modulus (shown in Hertz contact model) by several orders in Engineering modeling. But I didn't find any guideline on how many orders are proper in doing this, especially for a binary system. Can anyone give me some reference? Thanks.

Maybe a little bit late, but maybe for future reference
In the paper "Three-dimensional discrete element models for the granular statics and dynamics of powders in cavity filling - C. Bierwisch Ã, T. Kraft, H. Riedel, M. Moseler (2009)" the influence of the Youngs modulus was investigated. They did not provide a general guidline, but found that their simulation results did not vary too much if they kept the value E >= 10e7.
I guess it is dependent on your simulation how much you can lower the Youngs modulus in the end, but this could be used as a guidline. If you want to make sure your results are not affected to much you could conduct a similar study.
However, this is the value that I found several times in the forums here as well and is also in accordance with the default limit set by the LIGGGHTS developers (E >= 5e6).

Harald,
Harald,
Thanks for your reply. I also noticed this value in a lot of answers. In my simulation, this value does not affect that much since my granular flow is more like liquid.
Best regards
