Hi every body!
I want to know what is the most important advantage of LIGGGHTS in comparison to commercial software like PFC3D? In other word, what can LIGGGHTS do that PFC3D cannot do?

LIGGGHTS is ...
1st: it's opensource -> no fee
2nd: it is able to run in manycore (MPI) for particles AND mesh-walls (I know the new PFC3D v.5 release will be parralized too, but did not found the time to compare it with LIGGGHTS yet)
3rd: Postprozessing with paraview is easier than PFC can ever be
4th: it's opensource -> you can adjust everything to your needs (for example rolling friction model) as far as I know PFC3D 5 does not contain the fish tank anymore,
5th: direct import of STL files as walls
performance, performance, performance
The only disadvantiage is that LIGGGHTS does not have a variable time step size but on the other hand this is also an advantage bc. you don't need to worry about write-dump-file-step size ....
Just My Two Cents.

Is LIGGGHTS able to simulate non-spherical particles or not?
Thanks a lot!
Dear richti83! Can you tell me whether LIGGGHTS is able to simulate non-spherical particles or not yet?

yes and no
Yes, but you have to buy this feature from DCS bc it is not in the public release
See this example:

u can fake it with the lammps fix rigid but than tensor of of inertia is not correct and there is no usefull insert command for it.
I think Christoph is prepairing a site with an overview what is public and what is consumer code
Best Christian
Ps i'm not a developer or related to dcs or cfdem project!
