Simple vibrating hopper exercise

Submitted by singular_carbon on Sun, 09/02/2012 - 19:54

Hi there,

Im pretty much very new to all this and I have got all the files, programs and features up and ready. Is there any advice/tutorials/books I can look at for developing a DEM exercise to model a simple vibrating hopper with small to medium sized media (12-15mm Dia glass bead)?

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Gwyn

Hi Gwyn,

maybe this is helpful:

  • For your hopper you will probably have to make a stl-geometry. In this case the opensource mesher gmsh would be one possiblity. Google for tutorials..
  • Next you will import your geometry into LIGGGHTS. Therefore, you can find examples in the directory /yourLiggghtsDir/examples/LIGGGHTS/Tutorials_public/meshGran or movingMeshGran
  • As always.. if you are uncertain about any command of the input script, have a look at the Manual (/yourLiggghtsDir/doc/Manual.html).

Still questions?... don't hesitate to ask.
