Question of usability of experimental values for DEM

Hello,

i have a general question regarding the usability of experimental measurements for DEM Simulations.
I have tested materials in a ring shear tester. The ring shear tester gave me results for static friction angle, dynamic friction angle and cohesion.
Can i make an argument for direct usage of these parameters in my DEM simulations? Or are these values useless in the DEM realm?
A colleague says they're bascially useless since the DEM models are not using the same physics as the experiments. I would agree to the point that a ring shear tester is testing for the bulk values of static friction etc. and in DEM we're using particle values for the same parameters.
So are the experimental values useless?
