Local damping

Hi, all

Are there any commands in LIGGGHTS that is similar to the "local damping" in PFC?
I want to use this command because the simulation is a quasi-static problem. By adopting local damping, the simulation could be greatly sped up without losing accuracy.

Many thanks,

Liu

hey,

look for fix viscous. Is that what you are searching for? Also for quasi_static problems if you just wanna look at the final steady state, you could use density scaling (Particulate Discrete Element Modelling, by C. O'sullivan).

Joshua

No. fix viscous is used to add a force proportional to the velocity, while local damping applies a damping force with magnitude proportional to unbalanced force.
I will read the book you recommended carefully.
Many thanks,

Hi,

not sure what "local damping" in PFC refers to exactly. But I'm pretty condifent if it can be written as a mathematical equation, it can easily be implemented in LIGGGHTS
