How to simulate free-surface of water

Submitted by Rachel on Sun, 05/13/2018 - 10:50

Hi all,

I want to ask is there any method to simulate the free-surface of water using CFDEM coupling? For example, I want to simulate the process of a single particle settling into water from the air. Is there any possibility that we simulate the fluid wave around the surface of the water?

Furthermore, would it be possible that we simulate the interaction between solid, air and water?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Best,
Rachel

Hi mate,

I think you can find the solution by looking at the tutorial and several papers for a single particle settling.

Hi mate,

Thanks for this suggestion. I have simulated a sphere settling into water without considering the effect of air. As I know, the two-phase fluid seems to be supported by the premium version of CFDEM only. I am not sure whether this could also be applied in the public version. Could you please give me any clues? Thank you very much.

Best,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

no, sorry, currently two-phase fluid flow cannot be considered with the public version of CFDEM(R)coupling.

Cheers,

Alice

Hi Alice,

Thanks for your note. Do we now have any plan to in-build this two-phase fluid flow in the public version of CFDEM coupling in the later few months? I just want to make sure whether I need to code this function by myself. Thank you.

Best,
Rachel
