Help with correct use of servo wall to fix pressure

Submitted by iluvatar on Wed, 12/19/2018 - 13:02

Dear all,
I want to impose an isotropic compression on a granular sample. I am trying to use the servo wall for it. But in spite of many test (playing with KP, KD, KI,mode auto, etc) the walls are not getting the fixed force and also not moving. I am attaching an example script and the related cad file, in case any of you can help me.
The script correspond to a system where the servo walls are created to surround a cubic sample and the radii of the particles increases. This is is just an example analogous to the system I want. The script prints the force, torque and position for the top servo wall, where you can see that it is not moving and the force is completely different from the target_val.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, in case anyone has a samilar question, I fixed this by creating a larger simulation box, basically. After many steps, and when the sample is compressed enough to create a percolating network of contacts from side to side, thus being able to reach mechanical equilibrium, the servo walls reached the desired value with the proportional pid controller.
