Energy minimization

I'm writing my own code in 'C' for DEM modelling of granular flows.

How does the energy minimization work? Can someone please explain?

I checked the comment that you had posted earlier. I too was thinking the same that at the macroscopic level in DEM, where particles are allowed to move freely without any restriction on maintaining the crystal structure, energy minimization won't be needed. That's right, isn't it?
