DEM-CFD coupling for free surface non-newtonian flow (Concrete Flow)

Hi Everyone,

I'm a beginner in using CFDEM and somewhat familiar with LIGGGHTS and OpenFOAM packages (but not an expert). I'm ineterested in modelling free surface concrete flow where I have coarse aggregate as particles (Modelled with DEM) and Mortar phase as a viscous fluid (Modelled with CFD). I can model only the mortar flow using OpenFOAM with interFoam solver and can use Hershel Bulkley model to define the viscosity and other flow parameters of the Non-newtonian fluid (Mortar). But, when adding the particles I know that there are no direct ways to implement the interfoam solver in CFDEM. I don't know how to build my own solvers.

Please, can someone direct me to any tutorials to learn how to build my own solvers or any examples of the usage. Also, I'm really interested in workshops or seminars to learn CFDEM more. Specifically in Australia.

Thank you..

Hi Roshan,

I want to ask have you solve your problem. I am also interested in the modelling of free-surface fluid. Could you give me any clues about how to use this function, do I need to write any solver by myself? Thank you.

Best,
Rachel
