CAD-CAD interaction

Submitted by saraanvari on Wed, 12/12/2012 - 07:02

hi
Is it possible to model the interaction of two CAD files? for example in a case: rotating one CAD file may cause rotating another CAD file.

Thanks

Hi,

maybe you need a coupled DEM-MBD Simulation:
http://web678.public1.linz.at/media/DEM/featured/wheelloader_DEM_MBD_LIG...

or - if the movement is not complex you could try the move/mesh rotate/variable and translate/variable styles in conjunction with fix mesh/surface/stress

please provide more info or contact me directly via contact function of the board.

best,
Christian

Hi saraanvari,

do you mean interaction in the sense of coupled motion (such as MBD as outlined by Christian above) or modelling interaction force by penetration? In the first case, probably Christian is the person to talk to, in the latter case this would need an implementation of a penetration algorithm (not in LIGGGHTS at the moment)

Cheers, Christoph

hi
I meant coupled motion.
in other case is it possible to see the effects of particles on cad motions? for example a few grains bouncing on a plate will result in moving the plate. or the presence of a bunch of grains won't let a cad file move further if it was supposed to move with move/mesh
thanks

I uploaded a little video for you here:
http://youtu.be/eVVG3azcA_g
The pendulum is controlled by a MBD System (it's the openmodelica standard multibody example, see here for reference:
http://simulationresearch.lbl.gov/modelica/releases/msl/3.2/help/Modelic...)
The geomety is a simple STL file.
In the inputscript I measure the moment exerted arround the root-coordinate-system of the STL and transfer it to the MBD System as extern moment arround the revolute.

This work is part of my PHD thesis and not published yet. I've got a german paper if it is usefull to you.
