chasing an odd result

Submitted by jgoldsmith on Sun, 01/27/2013 - 16:59

Hi folks,

I am trying to chase down what would cause particles when dropped into a cylindrical container to settle in a bowl shape. that is the outer particles are a number of cm higher than the ones at the center.

I have included an image of the settled particles in this state as well as the input script that was used for this.

I have used this input script repeatedly changing different things as necessary and have never seen a result like this and have as yet been unable to repeat it so i was just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen or if someone can see if there is an error in the input script.

Thanks

Hi,

are you sure all particles are displayed with their correct radius? At first glance, the system seems a bit over-packed?

Cheers, Christoph

It is over packed in that image but that is really more because i dont know paraview well and using point sprite always makes the particles look overlapped. When looking at the particles as points in both paraview and matlab the same effect is clearly visible. we tore down the dump file in matlab and the radius fit the defined gaussian distro.

Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,

could you specify what the simulation does and how exactly the result differs from what you expect?

Thanks
