Heat due to friction

Hi!

I am looking for a possibility to account for heat generation due to friction. I have found the following commands that I think they are connected with this issue: heating_normal_hertz/hook and heating_tangential_history. Unfortunately in both cases the link to surface heating "surface sphere/heatable" is a dead one.

I tried to run a simulation with both commands activated (which was possible), but there was no change in my particle temperature (not even the slightest).
I have also found some source code which could be responsible for the calculation of surface heating.

Therefore I wanted to ask if this feature is available and working in LIGGGHTS-public and if so, is there a reference to the formulas used?

Best regards,
Harald

Hi Harald,

Thanks for the note! this feature is under development and validation and not ready for release. I'll add it under "restrictions" in the doc for the next release

Generally, you will often find placeholders in the source code for stuff which is under development, but not released yet.
If there is no documentation for the feature, this means that it is not available (yet)

Hi,

I have the same issue than Harald. I would like to generate heat from friction.
I run a simulation with heating_normal_hertz but particles temperature do not change a bit.
Is this feature available now?

Best regards
