gas-solid fluidized bed simulation with cfdem

Submitted by techblast333 on Fri, 10/21/2011 - 11:40

hi all,
Im working on gas-solid fluidized bed simulation. im new on cfdem. i have run the same problm openfoam (euler-euler approach). now im moving towards eulerian-lagrangian method. my problem is that i have seen cfdem example cases and have run settlingtestmpi. for gas-solid fluidized bed i have to pack bed upto some length with solid particles. in openfoam i did this with setfieldsdict but here setfields command is not working.
>> Is funkysetfields command related to this and does the same thing??
>> what is the meaning of voidfractionprev and voidfractionnext??
>> Is swak4foam library needed to patch solid particles upto some height in fluidized bed??

luking for a reply to solve my problem.

thanks.

hello cfdem users,
I have worked with fluent and openfoam but im very new on liggghts and cfdem. I have to work on gas-solid fluidized bed. one very basic ques i want to ask here. In openfoam i had introduced gas and solid phase at the same place and filled the bed with solid particles upto a certain height via setfieldsdict. In cfdem i will have to specify solid patching in CFD directory or in DEM directory and what is the proper way to do this??
thanks for any reply.

Anoop, following our tutorials that come with CFDEM I am sure most of your questions will be answered. Please consider having an honest look at the manual and the tutorials on your own and then asking the remaining questions.

Cheers, Christoph

instead of using funkysetfields, you need to modify the liggghts script.

Hi!

>> Is funkysetfields command related to this and does the same thing??
no.

>> Is swak4foam library needed to patch solid particles upto some height in fluidized bed??
no

please have a look at:
system/files/CFDEM_currentState_Goniva_0.pdf

to get a rough idea what our CFD-DEM coupling does. Further you will find plenty of publications on CFD-DEM.

Cheers,
Chris
