visualize particles in paraview

Submitted by carlesbp on Fri, 03/21/2014 - 16:03

Hello all! my name is Carles and I am facing a problem when it comes to visualize the results of my LIGGGHTS simulations in Paraview. The code seems to run with no problem, I dont get any error message and I obtain the dump.vtk file. When I open it in Paraview i can just see the CAD surface that I imported and nothing else. if I press play the simulation will run for the specified time but with no particles and, according to the outputs, 349 particles have been inserted.
Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi Carles,

You have to use lpp after you run your simulations to extract particle data from your dump file and write it in the correct format that Paraview can read.
Have a look in the Tutorials_public folder that is along with your LIGGGHTS installation. Look at the postscript file that comes along with the tutorials. That contains the command to use lpp (if you didn't install it yet, have a look in the Downloads section).
Cheers,

HI Nasato thanks for your comment!!! I thought it was not necessary to use pizza when you dump a VTK file. I will try it right now!
Thanks again!

Hey,
I have got rather the same problem with the liggghts tutorial chute wear.
The program runs without any problems.
But I get around 100 dump.vtk files.
1) How can I merge them together in one animation ?
2) When I open one of the vtk files, I can just see the Mesh and a pressure distribution on the surface.
No particles are displayed. How can I change it?
I also have not changed the post script files. lpp is installed due to the CFDEM Coupling I have made.
Many thanks in advance,
Chris
